IEF Programs: Childhood Blindness

IEF continues to focus on reducing vitamin A deficiency and improving pediatric eye care services worldwide.

Nearly 1.5 million children worldwide are blind because of simple vitamin A and micro-nutrient deficiencies, according to 2004 World Health Organization data.

Our child survival efforts in Bolivia and Malawi focused on vitamin A and micro-nutrient deficiency control, nutrition education, diarrheal disease control, malaria prevention and control, and immunizations. [ IEF Programs ]
