The International Eye Foundation: Helping the world see.

About the International Eye Foundation

IEF's Prevention and Treatment Program

Through treating and preventing eye disease that causes blindness, the International Eye Foundation restores dignity, productivity, and hope to people in the developing world— where nine out of 10 blind people live. We have the tools to change lives.

Four diseases are responsible for 80% of the World's Blindness

IEF's blindness treatment and prevention efforts are addressing the major causes of sight loss.

  1. Cataract
IEF is improving the quality of cataract surgery and enabling all patients to receive an intra-ocular lens to restore vision.
  2. Trachoma
Trachoma, an infectious disease, is being reduced with antibiotic treatment, improved access to water and better hygiene.
  3. Onchocerciasis
IEF made it possible for 1.5 million people in Cameroon and Malawi to receive Mectizan®, a tablet that when ingested once a year kills the parasites causing "river blindness."
  4. Childhood Blindness
IEF continues to focus on reducing the causes of childhood blindness and Vitamin A deficiency, while improving pediatric eye care services worldwide.

The IEF's blindness prevention and sight saving programs are funded by governmental, foundation, and corporate contributors, as well as individuals like you who generously donate online.
